Primary Human Islets for Research (HIR)
Human Islets for Research are primary human islets processed from selected cadaver organ donor pancreases that have been cleared and approved for research, not clinical transplantation.
HIR are obtained from a proprietary process of pancreas digestion and islet purification that result in uniformly high quality HIR for delivery to diabetes researchers. This assures minimal lot-to-lot variation in HIR quality and permits ongoing research activities with minimal risk of using different lots.
Quality Control test results are provided to HIR recipients as well as confidential donor information without donor identification. HIR recipients must also repeat QC tests and return results to Prodo Labs to verify quality of shipping and testing.
All organ donors providing pancreases for Prodo Labs HIR are required to have provided at least one other organ for clinical transplantation. These pancreases have also been released from consideration for clinical whole pancreas or islet transplantation.
