HUMAN ISLETS FOR RESEARCH-We currently supply human islets to both the academic and corporate communities for their research related to diabetes. We pride ourselves on providing the highest quality islets, which we have been able to produce by using our proprietary media (PIM-Prodo Islet Media)
PRODO ISLET MEDIA (PIM)™- Our media is a cGMP product and has been designed to increase the viability and purity of the cells, from the initial recovery to the stage where the islets are ready for study and experiments. Our media is capable of long-term culturing, of up to 21 days, without loss of purity and viability.
OUR SERVICES-Prodo Labs is capable of performing many services on a contract basis. Some of these services include performing assays, animal isolations and islet testing.
RESEARCH-Working in conjunction with the Scharp-Lacy Research Institute, Prodo Labs is committed to performing research which could lead to a cure for diabetes. Led by Dr. David Scharp, MD, our company continues to break new ground in battling this debilitating disease.
Animal Islets
Prodo Labs has equipment and experience in processing high quality islets from many different species and offers these islet preparations to investigators needing them. The following lists the different types of species that can currently be processed in Prodo Labs non-human pancreas processing lab.
Rat Islets
Our standard source is from outbred Sprague Dawley rats.
Islets from specific strains can be requested
Porcine Islets
Our current porcine source is from local, standard farm pigs.
Pancreases from specific porcine herds can be requested and processed into islets for research upon request
Cynomolgus Monkey islets
Our current Cyno pancreases are obtained from an active facility that runs a culling program so that only the pancreas is obtained from the donor reducing costs and use of Cyno monkeys that would only be sacrificed for their pancreases
Islet processing from specific Cyno colonies can be arranged
Processing other species of islets can be arranged
As with human islets, Prodo Labs performs acute quality control tests at the time of processing that are available for each islet shipment. More specific islet testing can be arranged for each shipment.
Prodo Labs provides high quality human islets for research as its primary service business by direct contracts with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies utilizing them for in vitro and in vivo testing in the development of new drugs for diabetes or in the development of new insulin-producing cells for future transplants.
